Black smoke cascades into the early morning twilight as smoldering corpses dot the war-torn plane, yet through the death and darkness one man stood. He strode easily between those few still living, and as he passed their wounds were healed and their souls cleansed. Aledros' eyes drifted up to this hero, and widened when Aegeus passed.
"My salvation," He managed to gasp.
"Yes, brother. Return to our home and speak of victory." He commanded.
Aledros simply nodded and gave a final salute, mounting his steed and starting towards Alcindia.

Aegeus Darkbane turned once more toward desolation. Clouds of a brewing storm loomed above and the heavens thundered. Over the edge of the land came hell's fury itself. The demons and damned, only from the deepest depths marched toward the Flame Bearer. Aegeus drew Ignisferre, which blazed in a glorious golden flame. A radiant sun broke the curve of the earth behind Aegeus, light bearing her fangs in the face of darkness. As the gleaming orb rose steadily, Ignisferre flared in defiance of all evil.

The lesser of hell halted as  a mist of pure light emanated off of Aegeus' figure, an aura surrounded him. The behemoths of only the farthest reaches continued on, roaring with the torment of one-thousand years. Aegeus felt Lucis himself within him, the presence of eternal salvation and undying justice. The avatar of this presence formed from his aura, the growling snout and bristling mane of a lion bellowed as the heavens crashed.

Aegeus let out a battle-cry in unison with his master, pointing Ignisferre at the hordes of demons. Golden flame erupted from the lions maw, cleansing thousands in righteous flame, yet still they came. The lightbringer lashed out in a perpetual assualt of swings, leaving ash in the wake up justice.

Yet.. fatigue slowly bled itself into his muscles, and as multitudes of of the damned were banished to whence they came, small cuts started to show on his person. Slashes and dents plagued his armor. Black blood, dirt and filth coated his pure snow-white plate, only Ignisferre glowed in holy power and grace, it's flame never faltering.

Aegeus reached for Lucis once more, but no power came to him, only a soothing voice filled his soul.
"Rest now, hero. Your destiny is soon complete. End the battle and Alcindia will rest in peace until the Flame Bringer is needed once more."
Absolution and rapture filled the hero's soul.

Aegeus raised Ignisferre into the sky, and fire erupted from the sword, halting the merciless onslaught. He brought the legendary blade into both hands, falling to one knee while thrusting Ignisferre into the onyx rock below. Thunder cackled as light cascaded in every direction from the flame-blade, obliterating everything in its wake.

As only ash fell, a gentle zephyr licked the blades of grass gently in a sun kissed field. An old, worn blade lay impailed on a mysterious outcrop of onyx stone. Etched on the stone was an epitaph.

"Here lay Ignisferre, blade of Aegeus Darkbane and his fathers before him, saviors of Alcindia. Legends in their time."
